Acro Yoga
Bhakti Thai Fly Jam
"Love like your life depended on it, because it does." Michael Franti
We can co-create love and devotion Our Bhakti practice can inspire a
direct relation to the divine as we chant the many names of god. This
blanket of sweet vibration lays the foundation to start the ritual of
Thai massage. The practice of metta, "loving kindness" informs how to
connect heart energy to the rest of the body. Therapeutic flying is
ananda amrita, bliss nectar.
The Art and Science of Handstands
The journey of 1000 miles begins with the first step. Handstand is a
posture that can teach us a great deal about patience, focus and
precision. A musician learns to improvise and create great jazz music
only after they have acquire a firm foundation in their scales.
Similarly, acrobatic training techniques will pave the way for yogis
to reinvent how to be upside down with ease, control and grace.
Students will learn how to develop a personalized training routine
that will enhance their strength, balance and endurance in handstand
and build progressively into more advanced variations. For
advanced yogis who already have a free headstand practice and practice
handstand against the wall.
Acro Yoga Maha Metta: The Art of Compassionate Touch
(Intermediate Level)
”Love is the most Healing Energy in the Universe” Deepak Chopra
The Buddhist monks knew this, the Thai masters knew this and AcroYogis know this! We clear our minds and become present with our breath in preparation to channel the ancient wisdom of Metta loving kindness. Thai massage lays the foundation of compassionate touch, receptivity and communication. The techniques learned on the floor will be taken to the air in the flying work. Flying can be a deeply transformational way to surrender to gravity and to the support of a partner, allowing unnecessary holdings to be released. We will work in groups of 3 - base, flyer and spotter - to ensure safety and to encourage teamwork. The dance of giving and receiving will leave everyone in the room floating with gratitude. No partner necessary, intermediate yoga practice recommended and the openness to turning your world upside down.
Acro Yoga Special

Training the Mind: A Life Beyond Our Fear as We Enter into the Golden
Age.
Meditation is the basic key to a happy life. The nature of our mind is to
create fear, because it feels this will protect us. However, we have the
choice to see above & beyond the fear, and the answer is: Meditation. If we
meditate, the subconscious fear base will not leak into the conscious
awareness. We will then live a clear and happy life. Join us as we prepare
the body to be still and quiet. Through Kundalini Yoga and Meditation, let
us move into the deeper realms of very ancient and sacred meditation
techniques, giving us the ability to view our lives beyond time and beyond
space. We will end with dance and relax to the sounds of the Sacred Gong.
All Levels Welcome.
Developing Courage: The Way of the Spiritual Warrior Ushering in 2012
We live in a global community, and feel each other like never before. That
sensitivity brings a responsibility to step up to bat and find own inner
strength, for ourselves and for others. We have been told by many teachers
and guides that times will get rough as we head towards the dawning of the
Aquarian Age. Now is the time to develop the strength, courage and wisdom
to sail over any chaos for the sake of ourselves as well as others. This is
the time to live not just with one another, but for each other so we can
live in peace globally, in the highest viewpoint possible for all. Join us
in the practice of Kundalini Yoga and Meditation Kriyas that will broaden
our perspectives to see how much we really do affect one another, and can
ultimately heal and uplift one another. Join us as we chant, laugh, dance
and then relax to the sounds of the Sacred Gong. All Levels Welcome
Attitude of Gratitude: The Highest Power in Life
To live in a mental magnitude that supports your soul¹s mission requires two
things: Gratitude and then more Gratitude. And what is the secret behind
gratitude? Living Humbly. To be Humble has no fall. The sole purpose of
this life is to live with your soul. If you are living and projecting from
the depth of your soul, nothing can disturb you. The moment your soul talks
& you start listening, you¹ll start consciously listening to the beat of
your heart, and to your breath of life. Then everything will change, your
projection changes, and you become perpetual & nothing will bother you. Join
us as we develop our internal connection with our soul through Kundalini
Yoga, Meditation, Chanting, Dancing and then relax to the sound of the
Sacred Gong. All Levels Welcome.

Traditional Yoga: The What, Why and How of Pranayama
Pranayama is the ancient science of working with the breath. It is one of the most important pillars of yoga practice, with numerous uses. The great yogi Krishnamacharya used to lay great emphasis on pranayama. In this workshop we will discuss the following issues from traditional sources, and also practice pranayama techniques.
How do the ancient Sanskrit yoga texts define and describe pranayama?
Why should we do pranayama? What can pranayama do for us?
How do we transition from asana to pranayama, correctly preparing the breath for pranayama?
What is the connection between pranayama and the mind?
Transformational Yoga: Dealing with Anger, Anxiety, Depression—Insights from Classical Yoga Texts
We have all been troubled by emotional issues at some time, whether it is anger or depression, anxiety or fear. The great sage Patanjali explained over 2000 years ago in his seminal work that the mind is the root cause of all happiness and unhappiness. This workshop will introduce some core concepts from classical yoga psychology and combine it with practice to give us tools to handle our emotions.
Yoga Cikitsa: Yoga as Medicine (Ganesh Mohan and Dr. Günter Niessen)
We all know that yoga can help us stay healthy. But that is not all. Yoga can be used to deal with many illnesses of body and mind.
In this intensive workshop, we will discuss the following topics, (packing as much as possible into the time we have!):
- Overview of the foundation of yoga therapy, its tradition, and the scope of its applications.
- A summary of the important tools of yoga therapy, their connections and primary uses.
- Some traditional concepts from the yogi Krishnamacharya in yoga therapy.
- Connecting yoga and modern medicine.
- Practical examples and application of functional and therapeutic anatomy to asanas. (What is happening in the body when you practice asanas, and what is its significance?)
- Discussion of some example disorders: of the musculoskeletal system (back pain, arthritis, rotator cuff issues…) and/or other body systems (asthma, diabetes, hypertension…), with a live case study (if time permits).
- Some ideas on combining yoga and ayurveda.
Throughout the presentation, our focus will be on specific information and practical guidelines, all tailored for application in yoga. We will try not to make you work to understand what we are saying—it’s our task to make material easy to absorb and apply. We also aim to merge traditional yoga and ayurveda knowledge direct from its authentic source with modern medical opinion and research.
This course will be taught entirely by Ganesh Mohan and Dr. Günter Niessen.
Ganesh Mohan is a physician with training in both conventional medicine and ayurveda. He is the son of A.G. Mohan who was a personal student of Krishnamacharya for 18 years from 1971 to 1989, and Indra Mohan who has been teaching yoga for thirty five years. Ganesh started practicing yoga in the tradition of Krishnamacharya under his parents’ guidance as a child. He is well-versed in related traditional studies such as yoga philosophy and Vedic chanting.
Dr. Günter Niessen has a unique background as a licensed physiotherapist, chiropractor, and an orthopedic and trauma surgeon. He has been practicing yoga for a decade, and is a yoga teacher registered with the BDY/EYU. Over the last 20 years, he has worked with thousands of patients suffering from various musculoskeletal issues, considering problems from a multidisciplinary perspective, implementing conservative rehabilitation as well as more invasive interventions when necessary.

IYENGAR YOGA: PRELIMINARIES AND FOUNDATION OF PRACTICE
“One should meditate on the SPACE in one’s own body on all sides simultaneously. When the mind has become free from thoughts, one experiences everything as SPACE.”
Vijnana Bhairava
Very often we use techniques on a body-mind that is not ready. In this class we will explore preliminaries and the cleansing process implied in these preliminaries that prepare us for the deeper work of asana. This is mainly the process of integrating the outer form of the posture, using the correct application and according to different needs, (viny yoga).
Some of the basic preliminaries are:
BREATH SHOULD FOLLOW THE MOTION OF THE BODY.
AWARENESS SHOULD FOLLOW THE MOTION OF THE BREATH AND THE BODY.
EVERY MOVEMENT IS CIRCULAR AND HARMONIOUS.
THE END OF ONE MOVEMENT IS THE BEGINNING OF ANOTHER.
THE ROOTING OF ONESELF.
ALIGNE THE DIFFERENT PARTS IN UNITY.
AFTER EFFORT ALWAYS RETURN TO A NATURAL STATE.
(Suitable for all levels. NOT suitable for pregnant or menstruating women.)
Iyengar Yoga: The HERO Sequences (Viravinyasa)
“One should meditate on one’s own fortress (the body) as if it were consumed by the fire of Time rising from the foot. At the end of this meditation the peaceful state will appear.”
Vijnana Bhairava.
These sequences are mainly used to learn to create a purifying flow. This flow from one asana to the next, is controlled and ordered via very important links and vital points. The awareness of these connecting points throughout the practice, create an inner fire.
(Suitable for practitioners with 2 years minimum of regular Iyengar Yoga. NOT suitable for pregnant or menstruating women.)
Iyengar Yoga: The Practice of Rooting
“The body is the oblation.” Shiva Sutras.
Traditionally the practice of ‘rooting’ is the establishment of the earth element. We will explore in this class how the rooting and anchoring of specific outer points in the asana, lead to an inner anchoring which mainly concerns the rooting of the coccyx/tailbone (muladhara) in the asana. The quality of this ‘rooting’ is stability and quietness.
(Not suitable for pregnant or menstruating women.)

The Vital principles of your Yoga Practice
The power of the practice of Yoga lies in the understanding of your body, your breathing and your mind and her patterns. Doing Yoga without this understanding is like a computer without electricity. When the understanding is there Yoga will do itself! Yoga is skill in action’ on all levels of ‘being’!
Yoga is more then practicing Asanas to feel strong and vital or because it is ‘hip’; it is a path that brings you in contact with who you are in essence and empowers that state of being.
In this class you will learn how to apply the eight vital principles of Yoga in your own practice. Keys to these principles are among other things a meditative state of mind, intent, being grounded and having a spacious, relaxed body & breath .
Explorations into Yoga
The most difficult thing maybe to understand is that in the desire to change and/or trying to do, we create the very obstacle to get what we want!
What we ‘know’ can only take us further into the known! Our mind can only take us to another component of itself; it can never take us beyond itself.’ For that we need to open up to the ‘un-known.’
“Yoga is more then just practicing Asanas to feel strong, impressive and vital or because it is ‘cool’. It is a path that can bring you in contact with who you are in essence and empower that authentic state of being.
In this class we will explore how much your mind is interfering in your Yoga practice and experience how it feels to do your practice from a ‘not doing’ approach.
Are you doing Yoga or is Yoga doing you?
Yoga is Skill in Action - lecture/ dialogue/ meditation and action
Although Yoga has her roots in Indian thought, its content is universal. Yoga is to be aware of your bodily activity, the way you walk, the way you sit or the movements of your hands; it is to hear the words you use, to observe all your thoughts, all your emotions, all your reactions. You can not be aware if you are merely judging, evaluating, saying, ‘this is good and that is bad, this I will keep and that I will reject. All this judging makes the mind dull and insensitive.
From awareness comes attention. Attention flows from awareness when in that awareness there is no choice, no personal choosing, no experiencing…. But merely observing. And, to observe, you must have in your mind a great deal of space! A mind that is caught in ambition, greed, envy, in the pursuit of pleasure self-fulfilment, and so on, such a mind has no space in which to observe, to attend.
It is crowded with its own desires, going round and round in its own backwaters of reaction. It is only in a state of attention that you can be a light unto yourself, and then every action of your daily life can spring from that light – every action – whether doing your work, cooking, going for a walk or practicing Yoga.
Yoga is skill in action……
This class is a mixture of talk, (active) meditation & practice.

Yoga & Gesang

Vinyasa Krama: The Energetics of Sequencing
The energetics of sequencing is the science that teaches us how to fulfill the potential of practice. Integrating the wisdom of yoga, physiology, ayurveda and tantra, the science of sequencing informs us how to fulfill our capacity as practictionners and teachers. Explore the ancient of principles of how to combine any and all asanas to achieve desired energetic effects and in the process learn how to transform body, mind and beyond. Lecture and two asana practices.
Yoga and Ayurveda: The Vital Essences
The three vital essences (prana, tejas, and ojas) provide guiding principles that allow us to approach Yoga as alchemy. These subtle forces are a basis to heal as well as transform body and mind. We overview these key yogic teachings of Ayurveda and the yoga practices that increase/balance each of the vital essences. Practice and lecture.
Mudra: The Body as a Bridge to Heaven (Intermediate)
Mudra literally means "to move toward delight". It is, according to the ancient tradition of Hatha Yoga, the culmination of the physical practice of Yoga. Integrating Asana, Pranayama, and Bandha techniques, Mudra exalts body, mind, and soul. Class also includes Vinyasa, Pranayama, and meditation. 2 years Yoga experience recommended.
